SURVIVAL MINDSET- THE 2 MOST IMPORTANT WORDS FOR SURVIVAL

I don’t think that any of us would have believed 20 years ago that we now are under a constant threat of an active killer incident. It’s a sad reality, however one we must face head-on in order to survive. Burying your head in the sand and hoping or thinking “it won’t happen here” is nothing more than a death sentence. Survival mindset is the key.

I’m not here to explore the reasons why someone makes the decision to commit such a deplorable act of violence. I’m here to help you understand that you can survive. Being in law enforcement for over 25 years, there’s one lesson that has served me well. It isn’t some secret hidden away. A magic pill. Or some kind of short cut that guarantees your survival. Those things never work and are in fact, fairytales. Told by those who never have faced true adversity. This lesson can be summed up in just two simple yet very powerful words.

NEVER QUIT!

It’s Simple!

It seems simple. Those two words, also know as survival mindset, have saved thousands of lives. There are countless stories of soldiers in battle defying all odds to save their brothers in arms. Heck, there’s been tons of war movies depicting this very thing. And if you think that this only works for soldiers, you’d be sadly mistaken.

In 2000 83-year-old Tillie Tooter was involved in a horrific car crash in Fort Lauderdale. Her vehicle went off a highway overpass, falling over 30 feet and landed in thick mangroves. She was trapped and alone for over 3 days before being rescued. She survived. Despite the odds because she refused to give up.

You see, you have a choice each and every day to look life’s hard lessons straight in the eyes and refuse to give in. You just can’t quit. Each and everyone one of us has this determination inside of us. In some, it lays dormant for years. In others, it’s a way of life. Above all, the trick is to learn how to tap into it before you face your worst nightmare.

How do you do that?

First, you prepare by accepting there are bad things in this world that may one day come for you. Bad things have always been around, they just change their form. This is life. Understanding that, you’ve done a great deal in moving towards survival. Then, when the time comes for you to face your battle, you think of everyone you love. Think of your husband, wife, son, daughter, mother, and father. What about of all your family and friends. How about the life you have, the memories you’ve made, and the memories yet to come. You use all of these things to give you strength, clarity and resolve to not quit. As a result, you then fight and refuse defeat. Life is a gift and we want to help you understand you have a duty to survive.
